The small, square shaped-island lying southeast to the Venetian Lagoon, where Armenian Catholic monks created one of the most prominent centers of Armenian culture, has opened its gates to the Aurora Humanitarians. This year’s Aurora Prize winner is Jamila Afghani, who won for awakening humanity and championing women’s rights in patriarchal Afghanistan.
