Daron Acemoglu is an accomplished American-Armenian economist, born in 1967 in Constantinople. He currently holds the distinguished position of ‘Institute Professor’ at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Since 1993, he has been a lecturer at the London School of Economics and an assistant professor, the Pentti Kouri Associate Professor, and a professor of economics at MIT.
In 2015, he was recognized as the most cited economist of the past decade according to Research Papers in Economics.
Acemoglu is a co-author of several influential books, including ‘Economic Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy (2006)’ and the best-seller ‘Why Nations Fail (2012)’.
Following the 2018 Armenian revolution, Acemoglu expressed his willingness to collaborate with the new government to foster Armenia’s economic development.
