Armenia’s Bachkov Wins Bronze Medal at Tokyo Olympics

Armenia’s lightweight boxer Hovhannes Bachkov won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday, bringing Armenia’s medals total to four. Bachkov’s bronze in Boxing is the first for Armenia since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Bachkov represented Armenia in the lightweight division of boxing at the Olympics, and on his route to a bronze medal he had defeated athletes from Antigua and Barbados, Azerbaijan’s Javid Chalabiyev and Uzbekistan’s Elnur Abduraimov, ultimately losing the semi final against American boxer Kaishon Davis.Bachkov is one of 17 Armenian athletes who participated in the Olympics and was one of the 4 Armenian medalists, alongside weightlifter Simon Martirosyan and wrestler Artur Aleksanyan who both won silver medals after gymnast Artur Davtyan had won a bronze medal.
