Belarus Thanks Turkey for Help With NATO Over Forced Plane Landing

The foreign minister of Belarus has thanked Turkey for its help in watering down reactions from NATO allies on the forced landing of a passenger plane and the detention of a dissident journalist by Belarus.NATO’s 30 allies released on Wednesday a short statement condemning the forcing down of a Ryanair flight to arrest journalist Roman Protasevich, but stopped short of announcing any punitive steps called for by Baltic allies and Poland.It was Turkey that played a role in softening alliance members’ outrage.A more severe response was expected from the alliance after NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg had called the incident a “state hijacking” and “outrageous”.To read the full story, check out the article on Ahval.
