Emily Mkrtichian’s Documentary on Artsakh Women Receives IDA Grant

Emily Mkrtichian’s documentary, THERE WAS, THERE WAS NOT, has received a production grant from the International Documentary Association.

THERE WAS, THERE WAS NOT tells the collective myth of a homeland nearly lost to war— and four women’s resistance to that loss. The documentary centers on these women as they take up arms on the front lines and flee their homes as refugees. In the midst of this struggle for survival in a new reality, each woman sits down to tell the myth of their homeland, which may not exist much longer.

IDA selected eleven documentary projects from six countries for the Enterprise Documentary Fund Production Grant. The projects were selected from 248 applicants, and the directors will receive a total of $600,000 in production grants.
The IDA Enterprise Documentary Fund was established in 2017, and supports in-depth explorations of original, contemporary stories that integrate journalistic practice into the filmmaking process.
