First Armenian Satellite Launched Into Orbit With SpaceX Falcon 9

On May 25, 2022 Armenia’s first space satellite was launched into the Earth’s orbit on a SpaceX rocket from Cape Canaveral in the United States, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a regular government meeting on Thursday.

Pashinyan added that the satellite was launched into space as a result of cooperation between the Armenian state Geocosmos company and the Spanish Satlantis.

“One of our priorities is the localization of space technologies in Armenia, as well as organizing the production of space equipment. A satellite control center and a receiving station will be set up by late 2023, around which a scientific research team of experts will be formed, ” Pashinyan said.

According to Pashinyan, satellite photos will be used for border control, crisis prevention and management, environmental preservation, climate change monitoring, road and urban development.
