Spanish Congress rejects international agreement with Azerbaijan

The Congress of Deputies of Spain rejected on Thursday, November 3 an international agreement signed with Azerbaijan

The People’s Party, Vox and pro-independence lawmakers voted to reject the diplomatic agreement signed in Madrid on December 14, 2021 for the exchange and mutual protection of classified information, while United We Can abstained.

MP Jon Iñarritu branded the agreement as “nonsense”, especially when Azerbaijan is “an aggressor regime” in conflict with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Iñárritu, who described the country a “corrupt regime”, “oppressor” and “aggressive tyranny”, also highlighted that it is “plagued by political prisoners.

Marta Rosique, another MP, slammed thr Spanish government for remaining “silent in the face of aggression” against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and criticized it for not having recognized “something as barbaric as the Armenian Genocide”.
