In 2021,over one million willow cuttings were planted along the banks of ten rivers flowing into Sevan Lake.
The program was implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) together with the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures.
1012 residents were provided with short-term work, who carried out planting and cleaning works on the banks of the rivers. Armenian Tree Project took an active part in this project by providing trees, conducting trainings and on-site monitoring.
The Willow project mitigated economic repercussions brought on by COVID-19 through the creation of season jobs for the rural population in Gegharkunik Province.
