Earlier this week, World Press Photo announced its 3rd place winner of the Contemporary Issues singles category of their 2021 Photo Contest goes to Vaghinak Ghazaryan and his famous photograph of the Armenian serviceman sleeping in the trenches during wartime. “This photograph has haunted me from day one,” said Kathy Moran, deputy director of Photography at National Geographic and member of the 2021 Photo Contest General Jury.
